Feinstein and MILCON

A high ranking Senator has resigned their position with the Military Construction Appropriations subcommittee (MILCON) today due to a conflict of interest. What I find interesting about this story is that the Senator is not some right wing Republican war hawk but Dianne Feinstein a high ranking Democratic Senator and the MILCON chairperson. There are two things I think you should consider about this breaking news. First it appears that it was liberal news sites that broke the story as you can see from this article on Bohemian.com where you can read the details of the story.

It has been my experience that liberals are very good at circling the wagons and protecting their leaders when they get into trouble, especially a high profile leader such as Senator Feinstein. But it looks like Feinstein has crossed a line that the liberals cannot accept. It will be interesting to see if the liberals are willing to press this issue and demand some kind of punishment for Senator Feinstein. It appears that some are even asking for her resignation. I seriously doubt that the Democrats will pursue that course due to the razor thin lead they hold in the Senate.

The second thing that will interesting to see is how the main stream media (MSM) will react to the story. It is pretty obvious to anyone who is a moderate or a conservative that the MSM is heavily biased towards the Democrats. Their bias shows up not only in the stories they report and how they report them, but also in the stories that they choose not to run. I ran a google search today for Feinstein and MILCON and found a lot of hits for liberal blogs, liberal news sites, and other Internet news sites. But I didn't see any hits for CBS, NBC, ABC, or any of the MSM newspapers such as the New York Times. I went to the New York Times main web page today to see what they listed as their top stories. Below is a list of their main headlines:

Prosecutors Assail Gonzales During Meeting

Bush Rules Out Bid by Congress for Iraq Pullout

E-Mail Shows Rove Role in Fate of Prosecutors

After reading the article on Bohemian.com, I think it deserves as much attention as these other stories. But you will probably hear very little from the MSM about it. Many times when a political friend of the MSM is in trouble, you will see a brief mention of it and then it gets buried. I suspect that will be how they will handle this problem. I think it will be very interesting to see how this plays out. Will the liberal blogs pursue this issue until it can no longer be ignored? Will the MSM try to squash it to protect the Democrats? We should all pay close attention to how this plays out. It will tell you a lot about the political climate in our country.
