Censorship in San Francisco
On October 2nd, the battle between the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and Conservative Radio Talk Host Michael Savage heated up when the Board of Supervisors voted to condemn Mr. Savages show as hate speech. The problem started when Mr. Savage made a rhetorical response to a group of illegal immigrant college students. Thirty-five students started a fast to pressure congress to revive a bill that would provide financial aide to illegal immigrant students. The so called Dream Act.
Mr. Savage who does not believe that people who are in this country illegally should be able to get government aide suggested that the students could, "fast until they starve to death." This statement did not mean that he actually wanted the students to starve to death. Instead, it was more like the parent of an unruly child who might say something like, "If you don't finish your chores, you can go to bed without dinner. And I don't care if you starve!" Most people growing up have probably heard something similar from their parents. It doesn't mean that the parent would actually do such a thing. But the illegal immigrant community and Supervisor Sandoval used this opportunity to try and silence an especially annoying political gadfly, Michael Savage.
Supervisor Sandoval's first attempt to silence Mr. Savage came in the beginning of August; when Mr. Sandoval helped to stir up protests and introduced a resolution condemning Michael Savage. But the resolution failed because the controversial Supervisor Ed Jew, voted against the resolution citing Mr. Savages right to free speech. Standing up to his more liberal colleagues has politically isolated Mr Jew who may have become the victim of a political witch hunt. But in the end this only delayed Supervisor Sandoval's march to silence Mr. Savage.
I think this issue and other events that come out of the extreme leftist environment of San Francisco should be a wake up call to all Americans. Most of the country laughs at Californians and especially San Francisco for their nutty politics. But San Francisco is one of the standard bearers for the Liberal, Marxist, Progressive movement that has taken over the Democratic party. Remember that Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House is from San Francisco. And Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton calls herself a Progressive.
San Francisco was once one of the most beautiful cities in America. Now it is a city who's annual parades glorify sexual deviancy, hands out money to drug users so they can continue their habit, publicly denigrates Christians, and wants to ban patriotic demonstrations such as the Blue Angels. San Francisco is the future of our country, unless Moderates, Libertarians, and Republicans stand together and put a stop to this madness.
