John McCain Pros and Cons
What I like about John McCain
1. Experience, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton cannot claim the real world experience of John McCain. No other candidate understands the ramifications of the Iraq war on soldiers, national security, national psyche and international relations like John McCain. John McCain knows what torture is and isn't.
2. Corporate taxes, corporations do not pay taxes, the citizens of the country pay for them in higher priced goods and services, lower wages, and lost jobs due to foreign competition. Reducing corporate taxes to improve their ability to compete in the global market place is a no brainer. It will help to preserve American jobs. McCain on corporate taxes.
3. Allow first year expensing of equipment, a lot of the infrastructure in our country is getting old. Companies will need to spend millions of dollars in equipment upgrades to stay competitive. Current tax laws require the companies to deduct the expense overtime. Giving them the option to take a lump sum deduction in the first year will help encourage companies to upgrade their equipment. This in turn should help stimulate the economy. McCain on expensing equipment.
4. He believes in using market forces and innovation to reduce health care costs instead of some bloated bureaucracy. McCain on health care.
5. He opposes judicial activism. McCain on judges.
6. He supports Congressional reform. McCain on ethics.
7. John McCain is not afraid to buck the system in order to do what he thinks is right. I do not always agree with Mr. McCain, and sometimes I wonder just what is he thinking. But I have to respect a man who is willing to do what he thinks is right; even if this means that he will take a lot of heat from his own party. Most Americans consider themselves as moderates. John McCain is the only moderate candidate running for President.
8. John McCain's children are serving in the military.
What I don't like about John McCain
1. Although I just stated that I admire his courage, it seems that some of his policies are of extremes. One minute he seems very conservative and the next minute very liberal. I believe that is why the most conservative people have a hard time with McCain. Is he a true conservative or is he a closet liberal like Arnold Schwarzenegger who seems to be running left of Gray Davis lately.
2. Immigration, although I believe as a compassionate society that we will need to have some form of amnesty program for illegal immigrants, I think John McCain's stance on the issue seemed to be too liberal. It is my understanding that his bill would have given illegal immigrants that are currently in prison the chance to become citizens. illegal immigrants that break our laws should be deported.
3. He seems to me to be a little too close to Ted Kennedy. I do not like Ted Kennedy, the man is a drunk and I disagree with his extreme liberal views.
4. I would like to see him take a tougher stance against the abusive practices of our so called free trade partners.
The bottom line is that if you want a President that will attempt to control government growth then vote for John McCain. If you believe in tax reform then vote for McCain. If you believe in the free market you must vote for John McCain. If you want a candidate with experience then vote for John McCain. If you are worried that a premature pull out from Iraq will be a disaster then vote for John McCain. If you want a candidate that is not afraid to stand up to what he believes in then vote for John McCain. If you want to vote for a moderate candidate then you need to vote for John McCain.
John McCain may not be the "perfect" choice but I believe he is the "best" choice.
