Obama Just Wants to be Fair
Obama says he wants to raise the capital gains tax from 15% to 25%. What is surprising is that he admits that raising the tax can actually hurt the economy and lower tax revenue. So why does Candidate Obama think we should raise the capital gains tax? Because he thinks it's fair. What a crock! Fair to who? Is it fair to the more than 52% of American households that invest in the stock market?
Fairness is a word you hear a lot if you are a parent. It's not fair that I have to do the dishes, it's not fair that I can't get new shoes, it's not fair that I can't go to the movies, it's not fair that I have to do my homework! You get the idea. When someone says, "it's not fair," they are saying I'm not getting what I want. Or in the case of Obama, vote for me and I'll give you more candy, I'll make things fair. I think I'll add fairness to my list of biggest lies.
But this statement does open a window into Obamas thinking who seems to believe that anyone who makes money (except himself) is not being fair and he has no problem in punishing hard working Americans for being financially successful. Awhile ago Obama was in an interview where the interviewer wanted to do a word association game. Every time a words like oil company or corporation came up, Obama's response was money, profit, etc. Apparently he doesn't think of companies as the oil that drives our economy. He thinks they are cash cows to be milked.
But really Mr. Obama, lets be fair. Is it fair that you are able to purchase a mansion far below market price by selling political favors? Is it fair that somehow you have been able to make millions with a base salary of $169,000? Is it fair that you tell the American public that we can no longer drive our cars or use our air conditioners while you travel around in SUVs, and private jets, and live in a home much larger than you need? Is it fair that a millionaire such as yourself and the other rich liberals have ways of hiding your money in tax shelters while the average American has to suffer under the governments increasing tax burden?
