Bush/Cheney program a victim of it's own success

Since 9/11 there has not been a successful foreign terrorist attack in the United States.  There have been a few home grown incidences that could be compared more to a hate crime than a terrorist plot.  Every now and then you may read about a plot that was foiled like the London plane bombing plan but for the most part, we do not hear much news about terrorist threats.  And the truth is we probably should not be hearing about these foiled plots due to national security reasons.

The problem is that the more successful we are about stopping terrorist, the more complacent we become.  Remember when the news would report the national threat level on a daily or at least weekly basis?  Do you know what it is now?  When was the last time you heard it announced what the threat level is?  Whether you approved of all of the policies put into place by President Bush, some of the policies, or none of the policies, the fact remains that they were effective.

Recently President Obama has been making changes to those policies to bring a kindler more gentler face to American policies.  President Obama claims that it will make America safer.  But former Vice-President Dick Cheney fired back at Obama saying that his policies will make us less safe.  Who is right will remain to be seen.  But after 9/11 Bush and Cheney batted 1000 when it came to stopping terrorist attacks in America.  Even if Obama's policies are working, the terrorist only need to get lucky once to make his policies appear to be a failure.

Our biggest threat right now is complacency.  And in my opinion, the problem of complacency is multiplied when our leaders govern from a Liberal mindset that is more willing to let down our guard in order to show the world that we are not bullies and that we want peace.  Our success up to date will only prove to the Liberals that we did not need to take such drastic measures.  That is until the next successful attack...
