Sotomayor hearing - can we believe what the liberals are telling us?

The Sotomayor confirmation hearing is going full steam, but can we believe anything we hear? Or are her answers a carefully choreographed response to hide questionable statements she has made in the past? Judge Sotomayor has three controversial skeletons in her closet that should give Americans pause. And by now we should all be familiar with them right?

1. Her repeated statement in various forms that a Latina women would make better decisions as a judge than a white male would.

2. Her stated belief that is the role of an appellate judge to make policy.

3. The number of decisions that she has had turned over by higher courts.

These three things call into question her ability to be an impartial judge. So much of the hearing will focus on these items. The Democrats and their media mouth pieces will want to brush them under the rug and conservatives will want to challenge her on them but appear to be unwilling to put up a fight. None the less these topics have turned up in her hearing. So in her hearing she is giving answers in response to the issue of racism, that she was just trying to encourage young Latina women and didn't mean to put down anyone. Regarding making policy from the bench she says that a judge needs to enforce the law and not make policy. That is what she is saying and the media is nodding their head in approval. But can we believe anything she says? And why won't the meeting challenging what she is saying now with her long history of saying the opposite?

Will Sonia Sotomayor be like her benefactor Barack Obama and sound very moderate and mainstream in front of the cameras, while pushing her liberal agenda on the bench? Unfortunately recent history has shown that you cannot take what a liberal says at face value. I think we the people need to be less willing to accept what the political class tells us. We need to take the stance that you have lied to me before, now prove that you are going to do what you promise.

Maybe all political candidates and political appointments should be given a 6 month trial period before they are confirmed in office.
