The Democrats strike back
The Obama administration and the Democrats have figured out their strategy for countering this ground swell of conservative protesters. At first they tried ad hominem attacks but for once that only made matters worse when they realized that it was ordinary citizens that were being attacked. Then the President created his tattle-tale web site for loyal Liberals to turn in bloggers and citizens that were sending out e-mails critical to his plans. That drew criticism too but it also help launch the third stage of their attack. This part I believe was launch by President Obama in his recent town hall speeches by saying that they (whoever they are) are scaring you with lies. This has been the most affective tactic to date. Because the generalities of the Democrats health care bill does not specify many of the things that are concerning many Americans. Instead, they are things that could happen based on the language of the proposed law.
And how can you factually argue against what could happen if it hasn't happened yet? It is the slippery slope argument which does not seem to work very well in politics. So it appears that this new strategy is going to be very affective. And then an interesting thing happened.
On Wednesday August 12th, Fox News published a report that the Associated Press contributed to. In the report titled, "White House: Obama 'Misspoke' About Claim of AARP Endorsement", AARP's chief operating officer Tom Nelson was quoted as saying, "indications that we have endorsed any of the major health care reform bills currently under consideration in Congress are inaccurate." But that is not what is strange. Saturday night, August 15th, while watching television I saw a political ad straight from the Obama playbook. In the ad an Ambulance is racing through a busy city with sirens blaring. It has to dodge cars that keep popping up to get in its way. The narrator tells us that certain people are trying to block our health care through lies. Overall I found the ad to be amusing and affective and at the end I was quite surprised. The ad was paid for by AARP!
So how did we go from, ""indications that we have endorsed any of the major health care reform bills currently under consideration in Congress are inaccurate." To an Obama propaganda piece paid for by the very group that claimed to not endorse his plan? We have been hearing reports trickle in on how the Obama administration threatened and bullied corporate executives to accept and endorse the governments bail out program. Did Obama do it again by threatening AARP? How can you go from not endorsing to paying for a hit piece ad in 3 days? How can you produce a commercial with an ambulance racing through a city in 3 days? And why would you be working on such a commercial while you are publicly reputing the fact that you have endorsed the plan? Did the Obama administration create this ad and force AARP to endorse it? What did the Obama administration do to get such an about face from AARP?
