Remember Tibet?
Remember the world rallying around support for Tibet just before the Chinese Olympics? Have you thought about Tibet since then. Well today President Obama meets with the Dalai Lama and the Chinese government has acted angrily about the meeting. They are trying to threaten and intimidate the US saying that the visit will damage US, Chinese relations.
China does not take kindly to anything that may remind the world of the unjustified invasion of Tibet and the brutal suppression of it's people and culture. The Dalai Lama has repeatedly called for a Tibet that would be under Chinese military and economic control but allowed to keep it's own unique culture and identity. This is something that China cannot stand.
The issue with Tibet and China's reaction should give notice to the world that the face that China presents to us hides an aggressive and power hungry agenda. We should temper our relations with China with this understanding. China may be a large trading partner, but they are not our friend.
