Personal power trumps public opinion in politics

There is no doubt that a big part of the blame for the Democrats humiliating defeat at the polls was Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Her Marie Antoinetteesque comment, "pass the bill so you can see what is in it." ranks right up there with, "let them eat cake." quote for arrogant out of touch leadership. So after their humiliating loss, you would think the Democrats would want to change course a bit. But Nancy Pelosi refused to give up her power and in the grand gesture of the best of narcissistic behavior, refused to admit that her leadership helped to bring the Democrats down.

Instead of gracefully bowing down she chose to fight. Well apparently Ms. Pelosi still held enough personal power and influence to get the rest of the party to back down. And now she will be the new Minority Leader. Which means that the extreme radical left still controls the Democrats. Don't expect Congress to compromise on anything in the next two years. Ms Pelosi's ego will not permit it.

But I think the biggest take away from this recent triumph of Pelosi's is that it doesn't matter what the public thinks. What matters is who pull the strings from within the party power structure. That is why we are so unhappy with our government. The leaders who seem to always be insulated from having to answer to the public, continue to do business as usual. To take back the country, we need to get to the leaders. Until they are relegated to the unemployment line we will continue to get the same old government.
