Gas prices are still climbing. Will they stop the economic recovery?
The price of a gallon of gas continues to inch up. OPEC keeps testing how much they can push up the price of crude oil. Will OPEC back off before we have another economic collapse? Or will they push the industrial nations over the cliff into another recession? That is hard to tell. Certainly the OPEC countries want to get as much money as they can for their oil. But with the fragile recovery, they may go too far. It doesn't help that Obama's knee jerk reaction to the BP oil spill will pull back U.S. production by at least a few years.
Even if you support the promotion of alternative fuel like I do, you have to face reality It will take a lot of time, effort, and treasure to move off of oil. In order to preserve our economy and create jobs, we need to make use of our substantial untapped reserves.
The Financial Times of London has a good article regarding the danger of higher gas prices.
