In 1933 the Reichstag building in Germany was set on fire. An immigrant was scapegoated. Hitler blamed the Communist and went on a witch hunt that ultimately led to Hitler assuming complete control of the German government. In 2011 Hugo Chavez and his party lost some of his power due to losses in the most recent national election. His response? First he gets his lame duck legislature to grant him 18 months of dictatorial power to handle the various crises that Venezuela is experiencing. Crisis that are caused or exasperated by his socialist policies.

And now all of a sudden there is an arson fire at a government building. An arson that Chavez has quickly blamed on his political opponents. Now many people believe that it was Hitler himself who set fire to the Reichstag building in order to precipitate a crises. Could it be that Chavez is following in those footsteps? It sure seems like a convenient thing to happen. Chavez has already been granted dictatorial powers. Now he can use those powers to go on a witch hunt of his own to eliminate his opponents once and for all.

It has been awhile since I blogged about the Hitler of the America's Hugo Chavez but I think his life and career are important for us to note. If one would take the time to go through history and write a book about how to overthrow a government and take total control over a people. Hugo Chavez would be a classic example. He is methodically going through the steps of ultimate power. And he is doing it with the help of many of the people of Venezuela. It reminds me of a line from the Star Wars III movie, "So this is how liberty dies...with thunderous applause." Democracy and a free society are a fragile thing. History shows that they are easy to destroy. But once destroyed they are very difficult to reestablish. Which is why every citizen needs to be concerned with what their government is doing. If you do not want to live at the whim of the elite ruling class, then you need to be ever vigilante with your government.
