The Federal government is close to shutting down. Do we really care?
Doomsday is here! Or not. The unthinkable might happen! The Federal government is on the brink of shutting down due to the budget battle. So when it comes to the average American citizen does it really matter? Certain essential services will still be running. I think that many proponents of a small government might think that those are the only services that we really need from the government.
So if the world doesn't come to an end if the government shuts down then why can't we trim back the government to a more affordable level? I think there are probably three answers to the question.
1. The politicians who more and more appear to live in their own little world, have an exaggerated sense of their own importance. I am sure that among the politicians the idea of a government shutdown is a horrifying event.
2. The Democratic party depends on campaign funds from the government employee unions. And if these employees miss a paycheck then the Democrats may have less money for their next campaign season.
3. The Progressive political movement who is all about income redistribution. For them the larger the government, the more money they can take to redistribute to their constituents. Less government means less money for them to take.
